One time, Buddha was visiting a village. Buddha took a bowl and went to give an opportunity of offering to those living in the village. On meeting Buddha, one farmer said to Buddha, "I plow and sow for a living. You should also plow and sow to make a living."

Buddha replied, "Of course, I also plow and sow to make a living."

The farmer said, "I never saw any of your farming equipments, and yet you said you also plowed and sowed to make a living."

Buddha then replied, "The are my seeds, and diligence is my yoke and plow." Buddha further explained, "The mind of all sentient beings is my farm. I plant those seeds in the farm, and then diligently cultivate them. In consequence, I will have them all be freed from suffering."

Upon hearing this explanation, the farmer repented of his attitude and sincerely offered his best to Buddha. He then said, "Great Buddha, please accept my offering of gratitude. You have cultivated the farm of my ignorant mind, and planted seeds of enlightment in it. With your blessing, I will be havesting blissfulness in the future."
